David Copperfield is a literary representative of Dickens, in which the author reflects his philosophy of life and moral ideals. Based on Cooperative Principle formulated by the American linguist H.P.Grice, this article provides a tentative analysis of a literary work with linguistic theory by the occurrences of violating Cooperative Principle to find its pragmatic implication in author’s characterization of these characters.
