The as-extruded AZ31 magnesium alloys were cold-forged at room temperature in different directions with deformations of 3%, 6%, 9%, 15% and 18% respectively. The effect of deformation on the morphology and distribution of twins in cold forging deformation was studied. The results show that in the initial stage of cold forging, a large number of {101 ˉ 2} twins appear in most of the grains in the direction of parallel extrusion. In the sample with vertical extrusion direction, {101 ˉ 2} pull occurs in a small number of coarse grains With the increase of deformation, the number of {101ˉ2} twins in the direction of parallel extrusion decreases, the length of narrow twinning increases, and the number of twin crystals in the direction of vertical extrusion increases. In addition, when the amount of deformation increased to 18%, the forging cracks of both types of specimens mainly originated from the long grain boundaries and the compressed twin boundaries.
