MPEG-4 treats objects as the smallest accessible unit of a frame, making content-based, flexible and interactive applications possible. After introducing the basic concepts of the MPEG-4 system, this paper discusses the process of creating an application using the MPEG-4 system and presents a prototype of a video-on-demand application using object modeling techniques using object diagrams and state diagrams.
