A new perchlorate salt of metalloporphyrin, {H_3[CuTPyP]}(ClO4)_3(2, H_2TPyP = 5,10,15,20-tetra-4-pyridyl-21 H,23H-porphine), was synthesized as pure single crystals by simple diffusion, which was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, ~1H NMR, ESI-MS, EPR, elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis and luminescent spectra. There is one cation of {H_3[CuTPyP]}~(3+) and three anions of perchlorate in the asymmetric unit cell of the title compound. The adjacent cations of {H_3[CuTPyP]}~(3+) are packed into 1D chains, which are further connected into a 2D layer through the N(7)–H(7A)···N(6~(#1)) hydrogen bond.
