随着中国在世界经济体制与国际军事格局中逐渐占据主导地位,中华文化“走出去”已迫不及待。《红楼梦》作为中华文化的集大成者,其英译工作对中华文化的海外传播有着重要意义。大观园是《红楼梦》的灵魂所在,其精神风貌对解读《红楼梦》意义重大。1979年建筑现象学家诺伯舒兹提出场所精神这一概念,旨在探究建筑精神上的涵义,为解读大观园的精神风貌提供了理论支撑。该文以秋爽斋为例,采用场所精神这一理论,从空间、自然和人为意象三个层面出发,分析在霍译本中是否再现了该场所精神,以期探索霍译本是否再现了大观园的场所精神。该文期望借此对《红楼梦》的英译和对建筑翻译有所启示,促进中华文化的海外传播。
With China gradually occupying a dominant position in the world economic system and the international military pattern, Chinese culture can not wait to get out of the country. As a master of Chinese culture, “Dream of Red Mansions” has an important meaning in English translation of overseas Chinese culture. Grand View Garden is the soul of “Dream of Red Mansions”, and its spiritual outlook is of great significance to the interpretation of “Dream of Red Mansions”. 1979 architectural phenomenologist Nobs Schultz put forward the concept of place spirit to explore the architectural meaning of the spirit, to provide a theoretical support for the interpretation of the spirit of Grand View Garden. This paper takes Qiu Shuzhai as an example, adopts the theory of place spirit to analyze whether the place spirit is reproduced in Haworth’s version from three aspects of space, nature and man-made imagery, in order to explore whether or not Hall of Fame reproduces the place of Grand View Garden spirit. The article hopes to give some inspiration to the English translation of A Dream of Red Mansions and the translation of architecture, and promote the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture.
