Objective To develop a psychosocial family assessment scale for patients with traumatic brain injury and to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Methods A total of 196 patients with traumatic brain injury and 80 normal adults were enrolled in the study. Based on the relevant literature and qualitative interview, the expert group formed the initial scale. Using project analysis, factor analysis screening entries. Test the internal consistency of the scale, sub-half reliability, test-retest reliability, observer reliability. The scores of brain trauma patients and normal people were compared to test the discriminant validity of the scale. The standard validity of the Faith-Faith, Explanatory Theory of the Mind, . Results The final psychosocial family assessment scale comprised 44 entries, with a total Cronbach α coefficient of 0.98, a half-confidence level of 0.87, a retest reliability of 0.88, and an observer reliability of 0.93. The result of factor analysis is consistent with that of the compilation, and a total of 74.04% of the variance can be explained by extracting three factors including interpersonal communication, belief understanding and emotion understanding. The total score can effectively distinguish between TBI and normal subjects [(110.44 ± 30.94) vs (147.05 ± 26.80), P <0.01). The total scores of the scales in the case group and the control group were significantly correlated with the false belief task, the interpretive mind theory task, and the total score of the missed speech recognition task (r = 0.86, P <0.01; r = 0.89, P <0.01). Conclusion Psychological theory family assessment scale of patients with traumatic brain injury has good reliability and validity.
