From 2005 to 2006, a ferroalloy plant, a titanium plant and a ferromanganese smelter were investigated. Soil samples and vegetable samples were collected within 1200m from each plant. A ferroalloy plant, titanium plant, ferromanganese smelter manganese ore, titanium dioxide, pyrite as raw material, the pollution generated are mainly heavy metals lead, mercury, cadmium, copper, zinc and so on. Taking the average of soil mercury in the country as the evaluation standard, the single factor exponential method was used to evaluate the mercury in the soil and vegetables around the smelter. The results showed that the mercury pollution index except for 4 soil samples was slightly lower than 1, which belonged to the warning line range. The mercury pollution index of soil samples were more than 1, indicating that the soil in this area was polluted, and the pollution index of two soil samples reached 3.5, which belonged to the heavy pollution range. For the cabbage and radish planted on the soil, the mercury content exceeded The standard limit values of mercury in cabbage leaves, stems and radish were 0.303, 0.030 and 0.162, respectively. There was a correlation between soil mercury and vegetable mercury.
