２１世纪是知识经济的时代，是高素质人才竞争的时代。时代对教育改革提出了严峻的挑战，开展全面的素质教育，是教育改革的必然趋势。本文根据社会发展对人才综合素质的高要求，针对高等音乐院校的实际情况，提出了在音乐院校开设“综合素质课”的必要性，并阐述了“综合素质课”的性质、方向、特点、教学思路、方法以及开设该课对教育观念、教学机制、教学模式的转变、课程改革的意义。
