Recently, the United States National Space Commission undertook the review and revision of the current space policy under the chairmanship of Vice President Quayle. The newly revised national space policy was approved by President Bush on November 2, 1989. The White House recently published an unclassified version of this policy. One of the salient features of the newly revised policy compared to past space policies is a stronger support for the commercial aerospace sector and the plan for manned exploration of the solar system. It has made 24 specific textual changes to the past documents, expounding, emphasizing, and discussing civil and commercial remote sensing, space transportation, space waste, federal government subsidies for commercial space activities, and space station policies.
