徐霞客(1586—1641年)原名宏祖,字振之,号霞客,江苏省江阴县马镇乡南旸岐村人。他是我国明代杰出的旅行家、地理学家。霞客出生在世代书香、祖辈为官的封建地主家庭。童年读书,即对为应付科举考试而死记硬背那些《书》、《经》不肯努力,但对“异端邪说”的史籍特有兴趣。年岁渐大,他更是如饥似渴地偷偷地翻阅了许多“方志”、“图经”等有关地理的,以及“野史”之类的书册;对远游(实际是考察)异常地神往,尤爱厘定山的走向、川的源流。他虽参加过科举考试,
Xu Xiake (1586-1641) formerly known as Wang Zu, the word vibration, number Xia off, Jiangyin County, Jiangsu Province Town, South Township Qi Village.
