海浪谱是描述海浪、揭示海浪内部结构的最有力工具之一。人们已经获得了大量的实测海浪谱,其中包括少量的方向海浪谱。这些实测谱除了直接为港口工程、船舶设计、采油平台等海洋工程设计部门提供区域性的海浪参数之外,在海浪研究方面也以实测谱为根据,建立了已被广泛使用的Neumann谱、P-M谱、JONSWAP谱等深水风浪谱关系式,也做了一些建立浅水谱和方向谱的尝试,但总的来说,对实测海浪谱的利用是不够的。
