Domestic and foreign critics of the two works “Scarlet Letter” and “Grindstone” are unknown, but no juxtaposition has been made between the two works. Based on the repetition theory of deconstruction literary theorist J. Hillis Miller, this article uses the text “Grind” as the main text and the “Scarlet Letter” as supplements to illustrate the repetition and difference presented by “Scarlet Letter” and “Grindstone” In different historical periods, Hester in essence remains the spokesman for male authority in essence, and Rosamond in the “tempered” deliberately opposes patriarchal traditional society with his inner contradiction Female norms. Obviously, “Scarlet Letter” constructs a society dominated by male authority, while “Grinding Gravel” seeks to reconstruct a world out of patriarchal domination by exploring the perplexity faced by the modern women seeking independence.
