Billy Bud, the opera, was created by British composer Britten on the basis of Melville’s novel Billy Bud. The creation of Billy Bud is the memory of Melville’s early sailing career. The detailed details of his work exemplify the autobiographical nature of his work. In Melville’s creation, a detailed discussion of naval affairs and contradictions is often a topic of interest to him. Thus, in Billy Bud, fierce whipping of soldiers, dreadful officers, scenes of war, recruitment of recruits, human rights, homosexuality topics, conflict between law and morality, and so forth, are all quite brilliant. Through a series of metaphors, portraits and contradictions and conflicts, the story sharply attacked the issue of good and evil of human nature and the morbid state of the society at that time.
