The construction of the Yue-Han Railway in the late Qing dynasty affected a province of Guangdong and also radiated to Hong Kong and Macao. The wave triggered by it caused a great uproar in the community and brought a lot of influence to the newspaper industry in Guangdong and Hong Kong. At the height of the turmoil of 1906, many newspapers and periodicals were hit hard by the straightforward announcement of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Newspapers, the painstaking disguise of the government and the benevolent government, and the use by the Qing government officials of forcible seizure, unreasonably arresting the newspaper staff and prohibiting sales. The wave of the Yuehan Railway undermined the normal operation of the newspapers and periodicals, but it also increased the resistance of the newspaper reporters to the Qing court.
