Since Robert D. Patten published the famous “Make Democracy Work” in 1992, the theory of social capital has increasingly become an emerging field of contemporary Western political science. Scholars at home and abroad have begun to pay attention to studying the issue of civic culture in political science from the perspective of social capital theory. However, from the existing research, domestic and foreign scholars have made few systematic researches on the correlation between the two, while the domestic researches on the correlation between the two are less effective from an empirical point of view. Therefore, taking Nanjing as a case study, starting from the real logic and current situation of social capital and civic culture in Nanjing, this paper examines the processes and mechanisms that affect citizen’s cultural construction, such as trust, civic participation in the network and regulation, which are important components of social capital. As well as their positive and negative impact on the cultural growth and nurturing of citizens.
