The world’s top 200 design companies that the United States “Engineering News Record” once ranked annually announced recently that their foreign market revenue in 2000 totaled US$16.1 billion, a decrease of 6.4% from the previous year. This is a negative growth after falling for three consecutive years, which has dropped back to the 1997 level. The top 10 income (please see Appendix I) has decreased by 160 million U.S. dollars compared with 1997. Some large companies, including the top 10, were fortunate enough to take advantage of mergers, acquisitions, mergers, restructurings, joint ventures, and other business strategies to keep their seats. Amec, a company known for its acquisition, has achieved remarkable success.
