文章以中亚粟特、乌斯特鲁沙纳、吐火罗斯坦和中国新疆和田、库车等地以及甘肃敦煌的佛教壁画为研究对象,对各地区壁画的色彩运用和绘画风格进行了对比研究,认为每个地区壁画的绘画风格虽或多或少地受到外来因素影响,但总是以一种风格为主。文章还对各地区使用的绘画颜料进行化学分析,说明了壁画颜料的成分和产地。此处发表的下篇即是关于后者的研究,以及关于中亚壁画的重要参考书目。
