I was born in 1947 in Pudong’s South Pier. From the early 1950s, we knew that water was used at home to carry water to the Huangpu River near the original port area of more than 600 meters away from home. Parents will pick the water poured in the vat, and then add some alum to clear the water. As for washing clothes and vegetables, etc., still to the Huangpu River. A few years later, the government built a water supply station at a distance of over 20 meters. We use running water, but washing clothes or using the Huangpu River, because poor families are saving water on that point.
