The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (referred to as Luxembourg) is a small Western European country with a population of over 350,000 with an area of only 2,556 square kilometers. However, there are three languages spoken: French, German and Luxembourgian. French and German are the official languages, and Luxembourgish is the spoken language of daily conversations in Luxembourg. Most of the people in Luxembourg have access to these three languages, so some people say that the people of Luxembourg are “linguists.” In addition to being the official language, French is often used for shop signs, advertisements and restaurant recipes.
