April 17, 2014 Source: Environmental Science and Technology The 100 nm particle size limit often used to define nanoparticles may be “unsuitable” to assess the environmental impact, a study team consisting of U.S. and Chinese scientists said. In a paper published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology, these scientists wrote that a 100 nm baseline “does not reflect the complexity of the ecological interactions with nanoparticles.” Studies have reported that nanoparticles exceeding the threshold particle size have different physicochemical properties. These findings show that there may be environmental impacts
