Urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) activity was measured in 36 diabetics and 22 normal controls. It was found that urine NAG activity in diabetic patients was significantly higher than that in the control group (P <0.01), and positively correlated with HbAlc, fasting blood glucose and mean blood glucose (P <0.05, P <0.05, P < Urinary NAG activity in the metabolically controlled group was significantly lower than in the normal group, albeit significantly lower than in the metabolic control group. Urine NAG activity is a sensitive indicator of good or bad blood glucose control, which not only reflects the long-term control of glucose metabolism, but also can reflect the recent good and bad glucose metabolism control.
