吉田兼好的言说中自相矛盾之处甚多。这种现象在名人中并不鲜见。在《徒然草》中,有两处涉及樱花的论述,意义不清,言人人殊。本文在承继斋藤正二学说的基础上,通过对日本植物学的谱系、日本樱史、日本绘画、兼好的身世、《古今集》等的分析,证明兼好在赏樱方面具有追慕已逝王朝、轻蔑新兴武士阶级和劳动大众的一面。结论是:兼好欲见的樱花,并非实际的花,而是心中浮现的既往之“花”。严密地说,是思慕王朝之花。
