Objectives: To investigate the drug addicts’ behavior and sexual behaviors and their attitudes and knowledge about AIDS. Methods · · ·: By using the respondents to fill in the questionnaire independently and independently by medical staff, 1115 cases of drug abuse admitted to drug rehabilitation centers in Yunnan, Xinjiang, Hubei (Wuhan, Yichang) and Beijing in January-March 1999 (44.9% for men and 55.1% for women). Results: 92.9% (1036/1115) of drug abusers were heroin abusers with an average time of 5.2a ± s3.4a; 70.6% (730/1034) of drug abusers mainly used drugs intravenously and intramuscularly . The mean time of injecting drug use was 3.9a ± s3.0a. 89.2% (651/730) of the patients shared steroid syringe with 1 or more people. The main shared object was drug addicts (58.5%). The main reason for sharing syringes is that “cleaned, syringes are clean” (50.3%). 268 cases had received HIV test, HIV test positive rate was 14.2%. The average HIV / AIDS knowledge score of HIV-positive drug users was significantly lower than that of HIV-negative drug users (t = 30.18, P <0.05). The average HIV / AIDS knowledge scores among 4 drug addicts were the highest in Yunnan and the lowest in Xinjiang = 10.78, P <0.05). Among the groups, 25.3% (267/1054) had unjust sexual relations with two or more persons; 24.5% (217/884) had sexual relations with others for money or drugs. Among the 753 respondents, the prevalence of various infectious diseases was 12.9% for gonorrhea, 4.4% for syphilis, 34.7% for urethritis, 4.8% for genital warts, 5.3% for genital herpes and other STDs
