White
Primary trigeminal neuralgia is a syndrome characterized by facial pain, the salient feature of which is the presence of a trigger point. Slight contact with a trigger point located within the trigeminal region of the triad can lead to a severe episode of pain; in the intermittent period of two episodes of pain, the pain disappears completely without leaving any neurological dysfunction. Primary trigeminal neuralgia is a common neuropathic pain in the oral and maxillofacial region. The Kurland Report (1958) reported 7,000 new trigeminal neuralgia patients each year in the United States; statistics from Wepsic in 1973 showed that 15,000 new cases of the disease occur each year in the United States. Thus, the primary trigeminal neuralgia is not uncommon. White
