Since the 1960s, the size of primary and secondary schools in the United States has been one of the most controversial issues in the field of education policy research. Compared to the ever-expanding size of schools throughout the 20th century, the size of primary and secondary schools in the United States in the 21st century has been shrinking. In the controversy over the size of primary and secondary schools, the overwhelming point of view is that smaller schools are better off. The enlightenment brought by these controversies is: we should look at the scale of primary and secondary schools from multiple perspectives and values; we should weigh the multiple influencing factors of the size of primary and secondary schools; and we should regard people-centered education as the fundamental measure of the size of primary and secondary schools.
