The Centaur carrier rocket uses a solid state inverter as the guidance system, autopilot and propellant utilization system to provide high quality three-phase AC power. (Centaurus is a second stage rocket of high-energy, low-temperature fuel). This article describes the evaluation of the design performance of this converter through various tests. The test plan mainly includes the measurement of the various components inside the inverter during its extreme working conditions. This article lists detailed data on electrical and thermal design. Special attention is paid to the effects of transient sensitivity and power impedance changes. Various important waveforms are given and their intrinsic relationships are studied. Analysis of the various failures occurred in the test and the main weaknesses of the system, and put forward suggestions for improving the design. These revisions were taken into account when redesigning the converter and were validated experimentally. In later flight tests, this inverter proved to be performing well. It provided high-quality 400 Hz, three-phase AC power to the Cosmic God - Centaur rocket for 14 missions.
