长度单位一旦确定,就会全社会通用,不能轻易更改,否则会引进度量衡的混乱甚至社会的动荡。而长度单位的最初确定,却并不神秘,有的非常有意思,甚至还很可笑。古书云:“身为度,称以出。”意思是说,长度的计量是根据人体的某一部位的长度作为标准的。夏朝时,大禹曾把自己的身高定为一丈,取其十等分,定为一尺。据说“丈夫”一词就是由此而来。汉字“尺”字是个象形字,好像一个人的手在测量物体时,拇指和共余四指张开分离时的形状。事实也正是如此,如今我们惯用的尺子,就是从人的手所丈量出来的长度演变而来。商朝时,一尺为0.1578米;西汉时,一尺为0.231米;隋朝时,一尺为0.273米;明朝时,一尺已变为0.33米。尺的长度不断增长的原因,是
