From 1999 to 2000, Nanjing’s cultural relics department discovered and excavated a large group of altar ruins of the Southern Dynasties, including the altar, the altar 2 and a building remains at the southern foot of Zhongshan, Nanjing. In 2000, the first altar was excavated. The main sites in the excavation area are a square altar surrounded by stone walls and four altar layers successively lowered on the three sides of the east, west and south. Unearthed brick, tile, tiles and stone lotus seat, are the late Eastern Jin Dynasty relics to the south. Combined with the “Song” and other literature records, the excavators believe that the altar for the Southern Song Dynasty Emperor Xiaoguowu built in the northern suburbs of altar remains.
