OBJECTIVE: To further study the relationship between nail length and nail thickness on the basis of improving the nail morphological data by measuring the length, width, thickness and nail area of college students fingernails. Methods: Seaborg method was used to measure the length, width, thickness and nail area of ten fingernails of male and female college students. Results: The mean values of male fingernail length, width and thumbnail hem half area were all higher than those of female (P <0.05). There was no significant difference in the average thickness of nail between male and female (P> 0.05) There was no significant difference in the average area (P> 0.05). Conclusion: The average length and width of male nails are larger than those of female ones. There is no difference in the average thickness of nails between male and female. The male and female nails’ half-moon area is larger than that of female.
