我的家乡保山市老营区柴河乡松子树村,是一个海拔2,350米的高寒山区,果树品种少、品质低劣。例如当地盛产的一种“苦桃”,又名“羊屎桃”。这种桃个头小、毛多、肉少、颜色喑绿、果味酸涩,没有卖相。特別是生长期长、雨水节令开花,直到“秋分”节令才可食,果实成熟期近180~190天,只能给小孩当零嘴。 1984年我从苗圃买来接穗,自己嫁接了20多棵水蜜桃:当年嫁接,当年每棵树结果七、八个;第二年平均每棵结果3千克左右,第三年每棵平均结果15千克。我种的这些水蜜桃,桃果颜色鲜艳,成熟时白里透红、水汪汪的,个儿大,果肉甜嗽,还比老品种“苦桃”提前成熟60天左右,甚至比亚热带的名果“大京桃”
