Nana is part of a series of novels by French writer Zola (1840-1902) depicting the French social life 1850-1870. Nana, the heroine of the novel, is a young prostitute who has been detained between dignitaries and dignitaries in Paris. The author does not have much romance and emotional rendering of Nana’s life, which is entirely depicted and described from the perspective of realism. In Zola’s pen, Nana is a vulgar, low-energy, greedy and cruel woman. Her story is a revelation of people’s resistance to sexual appeals. Through the novel, the author made a powerful disclosure and vandalism on the ugly phenomena such as the corruption of France in the world at that time and the moral corruption in the high society.
