福泽谕吉,日本明治时期杰出的民族主义思想家,其代表作《劝学篇》热切鼓吹独立,呼吁自强图存,反映了明治初年维新的客观需要,对日本建立独立的资本主义近代国家,起了理论先导的作用。《劝学篇》中的“独立”思想,立足于劝导国民独立自重,以主人翁姿态学习西方的长处、推陈布新、维护民族和国家的独立。其意义,从一定程度上讲,并不限于作者所处的时代和地域,值得我们深入研究。
