In the middle and later stages of the last century, the direction of western metaphor research has been controlled by Aristarchian similarity theory, and metaphor is generally recognized as a metaphor of rhetorical features. Nowadays, the revolution of cognitive science in the West has made metaphor no longer confined to the category of figures of figures, but has far-reaching cognition and entered multidisciplinary research. Based on the theory of cognitive metaphor, this article conducts a multi-angle comparative analysis of Chinese and Western metaphors in order to explore its commonalities and traits in rhetoric and culture and to understand its underlying cognitive roots. This research contributes to the sharing and deep understanding of Chinese and Western cultures.
