You can spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars showing that how grateful you are for what someone has done for you, but many times it is the simplest ways that stand out (突出;显眼) the most.
Say thank you
It may seem trivial (琐碎的;微不足道的), but show your appreciation (感谢;感激) immediately after accepting the gift. Remember a gift can be anything, praise, advice, etc. This shows how grateful you are.
Write a note
Here snail mail (由邮递员分发传递的传统信件) is better. How often do you get real non-promotional (非促销的) and meaningful mail in your mailbox? My guess is rarely (罕有地). Spend five minutes and write a note either on paper or a card saying thank you. It’s sure to make him or her smile happily. If you want extra bonus points, you can send him or her a postcard while traveling.
If the recipient (收信人) is always traveling, an e-card or an e-mail will do the same, but make sure to personalize (为某人特制;使……个性化) it. Make sure it is from your email and not your friends’.
Express through social media
This is acceptable (可接受的) if your recipient is active on social media networks (such as facebook, twitter, weibo etc.). What better way to show that you are grateful than shouting it out to the world and reaching millions of people.
Send a small gift
Send something meaningful that shows your appreciation. Now, we need to define (下定义) the word “meaningful” first. It has a clear meaning in the dictionary: expressing an emotion or idea without words; having real importance or value.
The gift must have some meaning to the recipient. If they love food, you might buy them a cup of coffee, or something they enjoy tasting. If they love flowers, send a bouquet (花束) to their office.
The point here is to not only send a gift, but also to show that you have taken so much care to choose for them.
Smile
微笑
This one is the easiest of the five. Smiling is contagious (有感染力的) and brightens someone’s day instantly (瞬间;立即). Combine this with a thank you and the recipient will be very happy. You never know the magic of this way until someone does it for you.
Words can’t explain it, but the impact (影响;作用) shows when the recipient instantly smiles and passes it along.
Can one act of gratitude and thankfulness change the world? I believe so. When we thank what impacts us in a positive (积极的;正面的) way, the people that make us smile and brighten our day, it is contagious. We are willing to do great things for others and brighten someone else’s day.
So, it’s time to show that you are grateful for the person who makes your days better, helps you out, and is there when you need them even when you least expect it. Send a note, pick up the phone, or send a gift and say “thank you”.
