Contempt for professional and commercial drama has long been the result of “left-wing thinking.” This article reevaluates the history from the constraints of wartime political and ecological environment, the perspective of urban mass theater, and the game of art and commerce. Viewing this golden period in the history of Shanghai drama plays is not without merit for the healthy development of the theater market today.
