Cancer patients often need blood transfusions due to anaemia or surgery. Whether they correct the patient’s anaemia or blood transfusion at the same time as surgery affects the healing of tumors. Reports on this topic have increased after the 1970s. It is generally believed that patients with malignant tumors receive blood transfusions. Inhibition of immune function may promote tumor growth. Burrow and Tartter’s observation of 122 patients with colon cancer in 1982 confirmed this hypothesis and was first introduced at the 1983 annual meeting of the American Blood Bank Association. In recent years, a large number of studies have been conducted on the relationship between blood transfusion during surgery and tumor growth or recurrence in various tumor patients. Understand the trade-offs between the advantages and disadvantages of these relationships for cancer patients. Given that there are not many domestic data in this area, this article reviews the issue based on foreign literature.
