2. Friction and roughness Coated paper is smoother than uncoated paper. However, supercalendered paper is smoother than newsprint and WFU due to surface treatment. Figure 5 depicts the relationship between the friction coefficient μ1-3 and the surface roughness Ra, showing that the coarse paper has a lower coefficient of friction than the glossy paper and the newsprint and the WFU paper have lower coefficients of friction and higher roughness values. The Sivamani et al. Study discusses the probe’s smoothness. The smoother the probe, the more contact points the skin and the probe, the higher the coefficient of friction yi. The argument for different smoothness when comparing two stainless steel probes and two nylon probes sliding on a fixed skin is advanced and equally effective on skin sliding over a fixed surface.
