Corpus evidence shows that co-optation is the core mechanism by which academic writers choose linguistic forms to achieve experience, position, and organizational meaning. Statutory infiltration to different aspects of language use, covering three levels of co-election: vocabulary - grammar-level co-election, co-selection in the field of discipline, as well as meta-discourse co-election.
