美国在研的空天飞机X-43B采用的推进剂是JP-7(jetpropellant-7)和浓度为90%的过氧化氢。1060工业纯铝和5254铝镁铬合金屈服强度比较低,不能满足轻重量贮箱或结构的要求。铝镁合金中添加适量配比的钪和锆,通过与高浓度过氧化氢材料的相容性试验表明,铝钪合金与过氧化氢一级相容,其稳定性为99.29%,是理想的高浓度过氧化氢贮箱材料。并且通过实验表明钪和锆的加入能显著改善铝合金的可焊性、耐热性、抗蚀性、热稳定性和抗中子辐照损伤的作用,并大幅度提高强度(7X11铝钪合金屈服强度是5254铝镁合金的4.8倍)。
