Objective To understand the utilization of sports facilities in community residents in Beijing Asian Games Village. METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted. In 2004 and 2005, 600 residents living in the Asian Games Village Community and 1765 people over the age of 15 were selected as the baseline cohort in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Using self-designed “Beijing typical community residents questionnaire” to understand the residents of sports facilities utilization; in 2006, 2007 using the same questionnaire for follow-up survey. Results The per capita stadium area in the Asian Games Village community was 1.55 m2.2007 24.1% of the residents in the Asian Games Village community often exercise their fitness facilities near the home, up from 18.1% at baseline and 22.3% in 2006 (χ2 trend = 6.407, P <0.05). The highest utilization rate of sports facilities is the fitness area in the community. In 2006, the most commonly used physical fitness places in the community were 41.4% of exercise places and 44.5% in 2007, which was significantly higher than the baseline (χ2 = 36.993, P <0.01). Compared with the baseline and 2006, the community residents in the Asian Games Village in 2007 have made great improvement in the satisfaction of all aspects of the utilization of sports facilities. Multivariate regression analysis found that the higher the level of education, the higher the accessibility of sports facilities, the more satisfied the quantity and safety of sports facilities and the better utilization of sports facilities. Conclusion The availability of community sports facilities and venues in Asian Games Village has played a good role in safeguarding and guiding mass sports activities. It is necessary to further increase the types and quantities of sports facilities, improve the quality and safety of sports facilities, and strengthen the management of sports facilities. Meet the resident’s physical training needs.
