Objective To compare the differences of 18 elements in the blood between patients with Kashin-ulna disease and healthy controls in Aba area. Methods Stratified random sampling was used to select 36 patients with first degree, second degree, and third degree of Kashin-Beck disease in Aba area and 36 healthy controls respectively. The plasma samples were collected by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry Method (ICP-AES) and atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS) determination of 18 kinds of elements in the whole population of blood. Results The levels of K, Na, Cr, Mo and Se in whole blood of Kashin-ulna patients and healthy controls were significantly different (P <0.05). The levels of Na, Cr, Related, blood K level and Kashin-Beck disease status was negatively correlated (P <0.05). Conclusion There are some differences in the levels of various elements in the blood between healthy controls and patients with KBD.
