This paper describes the relationship between oxygen and steel with the specific examples reported in foreign literature. After the invention of oxygen top-blown converter steelmaking in Austria in 1952, the world steel industry has undergone a landmark change and promoted the development of oxygen concentrator towards large-scale. The article summarizes the production ratios of oxygen top blown converter steel in major countries and their annual steel production, as well as the oxygen consumption and oxygen requirements of the steel industry, and concludes with a few brief accounts of some of the developments in the oxygen generator for the steel industry: Large, pure-oxygen blast furnace oxygen generators, computer-controlled oxygen generators adapted to the rhythm of the converter’s rhythms, and oxygen generators with variable oxygen supply.
