Objective To understand the composition and incidence of isolated medical observation population during the epidemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Beijing and provide the basis for scientifically and reasonably isolated contacts of SARS cases. Methods According to geographical location, Haidian District was divided into five regions: east, west, south, north and middle. Each district took 1 street (township) from the streets (villages and towns) SARS "prevention and control office, the neighborhood has arranged a quarantined medical observation object to a unified questionnaire sent to isolated observers, letting themselves fill out the questionnaire. If you can not fill it out, ask others to fill it in. Results A total of 108 persons were quarantined and 24 cases of SARS were found. The attack rate was 2.3%. Sixty-one percent (6/30/1028) of them were isolated because of SARS. Among them, 6 1% (383/630) were in contact with the SARS cases during the symptom period; 24 cases were in contact with the SARS cases in the symptom period; Sixty-three percent (6 4 5/10 8 8) of the patients were quarantined; and 16 of the seven individuals who contacted them during the incubation period of SARS were not affected. Conclusion Only people who come into contact with SARS after the onset of SARS need to be quarantined. If the direct contact with SARS is quarantined according to this standard, the cost of 63% can be saved. No cases of SARS were found to be infectious during their incubation period.
