在当代中国,不同代际群体形成鬼观念的途径大相径庭,集中体现中国鬼文化的鬼节也就在城乡有着整体性的差别。当相对边缘地区以及老龄群体仍在践行着相对传统的鬼观念并敬拜祖先、神灵之间的各种鬼神,都市生活方式主导的大小城市以及发达地区的年轻群体则通过鬼片、鬼街、假面舞会等消费着鬼,娱乐着鬼。这样,对鬼节的研究就有必要拓展其外延和内涵,关注新老并呈的鬼符号及其实践。
