Objective To observe the effects of wearing respirators on the movement of free radicals and blood lactic acid (BLA) in human plateau. Methods Twenty healthy young people who were stationed at an altitude of 3 700 m for 20 days underwent incremental load exercise with and without aerobic respirator wearing aerobic respirators. After exercise, the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) and BLA content. Results Compared with the control group, MDA and BLA decreased and SOD increased (P <0.05 or <0.01). Conclusion The oxygen breathing apparatus of the Manchu Plateau significantly inhibits the free radical damage caused by plateau movement and accelerates the clearance of the free radical metabolites and fatigue recovery after exercise.
