金铜佛像,是将铜或青铜铸造后,再在其表面进行鎏金的佛教造像。我们中国佛教的金铜佛像,依照语言和流行地区划分,可分为汉传、藏传和南传这三大系统。其中流传地域最广、影响最大的,当为汉、藏两系统佛教造像。佛教注重形象的说教,千百年来,为适应、满足广泛的佛教信仰,历代艺术大师和能工巧匠用他们的虔诚和聪明才智,创作了无数的雕塑、画像供人们礼拜、观瞻。众多的佛教造像在中国的佛教艺术上灿烂辉煌,而南朝时期的金铜群佛造像,则更是整个佛教金铜造像中的一朵奇葩。
