与往日的辉煌相比,晚清民国时期的竹刻确乎只是“小儿科”。雕刻本体语言的日益缺乏,竹人综合素养的严重枯萎,使竹刻这本来戛戛独造的高雅艺术,退化为锦上添花的装饰附庸从文人墨客的山斋清玩,屈居于不学富户的厅堂摆设虽处低潮,但亦有自身特色,其存续而未完全消灭的事实本身,即是一种传承。
