Chemical weathering is one of the important processes of the evolution of the Earth’s surface and is a key part of the surface material circulation. However, there are still controversies regarding the strength of silicate weathering and the factors controlling weathering on long time scales. Due to significant isotopic differentiation during water-rock reactions, lithium isotopes are thought to trace silicate weathering. Dellinger and his collaborators at Durham University in the UK summarize river sediment data from several major water systems around the world (such as the Amazon, the Congo, the Yangtze, etc.)
