Using questionnaires and junior high school students as subjects (n = 372), the relationship between hypothetical audiences, personal myths, the preferences of Internet social services, and the use of pathological Internet was explored. The results showed that in the junior middle school stage: (1) Internet social service preference and pathological Internet usage increased linearly with the increase of grade; (2) Internet social service preference could directly predict the use of pathological Internet ; (3) the notion of hypothetical audience also has a significant direct predictive effect on the use of pathological Internet; (4) the impeccable components of hypothetical audiences and personal myths indirectly predict the use of pathological Internet through the preferences of Internet social usage.
