看了一个有关家庭教育的TED演讲，内容非常棒，但很多人对演讲者多次提到的一个句子并不理解。
Parents often see reading as “school business”—something that teachers are responsible for. But theres a lot of research that shows the value of reading at home and in the community. Children who read at home with parents or caregivers have an educational advantage that lasts their whole lives. Parents， as their childrens first and most important teachers， can make reading fun and inspire a lifelong love of reading. This is really important， you must take it home！
What？ 帶回家？老师布置了什么家庭作业吗？
其实，这里并没有“带回家”之意。演讲者表达的意思是“You must remember it.”，即这一点很重要，我们务必牢牢记住。再如：
You must take this idea home with you： Never think you will get good grades without a large vocabulary.你务必记住这点：没有足够的词汇量，你别想取得好成绩。
看到take home，我们首先想到的是“带回家”。take home的基本意思当然是“带回家”。如：
You take this note home and give it to your father.把这个便条带回家，交给你的父亲。
I will take some souvenirs home and give them to my friends.我将带一些纪念品回去，分给我的朋友们。
但是，并不是所有的take home都是“带回家”的意思。英语中，home的应用非常广泛。其基本意义是“家”，但是在很多情况下，意思有一定的迁移，我们一定要注意。除了上文所说的“记住”之意，还有很多。如：
How much do you take home with you？
这里take home的意思是“earn money”，所以本句的意思就是“你挣多少钱”。
再如at home，基本意思是“在家”。如：
My father is at home today.我父亲今天在家。
但是，有时候，其含义已经远远超越了“在家”，如：
Dont be nervous. Just feel at home.
本句的意思是“别紧张，放松点”。此处，feel at home 就是“放松”之意。
Mrs Hill is not at home to anyone except close relatives.希尔夫人一般不接待客人，
除非是非常亲近的亲属。
本句中，at home的意思是“expect and （be） ready to receive visitors”，汉语意思为“好客”。
在阅读中，我们还经常会遇到和home 有关的词组，其意思也有很大的延伸。
home bird 可不是“家养的鸟”，而是比较流行的“宅男;宅女”之意，即“喜欢待在家里的人”。
My sister is a real home bird， and even seldom goes shopping with friends.我姐姐是
个很宅的人，甚至很少和朋友出去逛街。
bring home不是“带回家”，而是“使某人了解某事的重要性”。

清楚一个观点很有效。
go home除了“回家”，还有“打中目标;击中要害”之意。

hit home也有同样的意思。
The criticism hit home.这个批评一针见血。
